FairSay's Big Idea
FairSay stands for the simple but fundamental principle that everyone should have a chance to have a fair say in issues that concern them. Having a 'fair say' is about participating in shaping one's world and is deeply rooted in democratic principles.
From this simple idea, FairSay Limited was formed in 2004 to work toward this ideal.
FairSay believes that the best way it can currently support people getting a fair say is to:
- Support campaigning organisations and coalitions to be effective in their campaigns
- Develop tools that make it easy for campaigners to apply activism best practice
- Connect activism practitioners to share experience and help each other improve their campaigning
These ensure it is simple and easy for people to take campaigning actions, get involved and connect to others with shared concerns.
We do this through providing e-activism consultancy, e-activism tool/platform development and organising the annual eCampaigning Forum for e-activism practitioners. These are only the humble beginnings of what we intend to be a flourishing hub of public participation.
For FairSay, new media (i.e. Internet, mobile phones and other digital technology) is about finding ways to get people everywhere engaged in being locally active. New media is part of this process and can be a key enabler, but is it only a starting point for people to be informed, connected and involved.
Our next step is to put our powerful advocacy tools in the public domain so that people, organisations and coalitions around the world can use and contribute.
We have big plans, but for the moment it is best we focus on taking one step at a time, and we hope you will take these steps with us.
