Friday Night

Greenpeace presentation of "Custard-Melt"

18:00-19:00 at the Said Business School

Climate change is the greatest threat facing the planet. It is a problem on such a scale that it can only be addressed by collective action, beyond the scale of any individual organisation. When individuals and groups of all sizes start to work together we will have the strength to drive the change that is needed, persuade the governments and convince the corporations. Also, with enough individual actions we can make a real difference ourselves. By taking on energy efficiency measures or installing renewable energy we have the power to protect the climate, and save money.

Greenpeace is working on a campaign focused on people who are willing to make a change. It focuses on bringing people together to organise collective actions and activities around climate change. Greenpeace and other organisations will actively participate in the campaign, offering information and toolkits, and initiating global events and activities.

The campaign is people-centered and will make use of internet and mobile communication devices to let people quickly join forces, coordinate activities globally, and be motivated by demonstrating that individual actions in collective networks do make big differences in the world.

The software for this, "Custard", is currently being developed in cooperation with ThoughtWorks?, and together we like to present the current plans, the ideas behind it, and the software itself. We also invite people from Oxford, undergrads and MBA students, the Skoll Centre for social entrepreneurship, and the James Martin Institute for science and civilisation.
